How to leave Society: In 8 simple steps

I know things are getting rough out here. It can be overwhelming watching the world around you devolve, while you go deeper into debt financially and/or spiritually and began seeking a way out. Things are constantly changing and it is moving at a rapid pace.

You may began to ask yourself, How to leave society. This may be due to social media, originally created with the intent to bring people closer and make them feel connected. Overtime these platforms have showed people with less how the people with more live. Making people feel more alone and ironically less social in real life.

Inflation is bringing the value of the dollar to an all time low, a pandemic swept through the world and the news is a circus of death. Pesticides leach into every fruit and vegetables you have easy access to, the water is riddled with chemicals and metal. I understand things can look bleak.

You may also just be loving life and just looking for a change of pace, either way I am here to help this is how to leave Society: In 8 simple Steps.

1. Identifying Who You Are

It’s time to start fresh, now i’m not saying you need to change your identity but you do need a reset and you can start something new without ending something old. figure out who you are, your place in society and understand the change that needs to occur.

Pay off those credit cards if you can and increase those credit card limits as well. You won’t be closing them as age is an important factor in your credit score and strangely enough if you don’t have a good amount of capital they may be your only way to facilitate your exit from the life you have known thus far.

It is time to get serious about becoming who you need to be to accomplish what an be seen as the impossible, leaving the past and present behind you

2. Downsizing

Watch the movie if you have never seen it. It wont give you the answers to life but it is a good visual representation of what is needed. Start making everything in your life simpler. If you have 2 cars bring that down to one. If you have a leases try and transfer it to someone else through the dealership to limit your liability. The key is to bring everything you have down a level if you can, throw things away, clear out that storage unit, close and consolidate those bank accounts. Less is more.

If you have memberships and subscriptions it is time to get rid of those as well. I’m sure you will be surprised by how much you spend monthly and yearly on things you won’t have any use of anymore

You want to have as small a footprint as possible so walking out of society has the lowest impact. I can’t stress the importance of this enough. You want a small ripple or no movement at all when you exit for smooth new beginning.

3. The Midas Principle (Rule of 100)

Limit yourself to 100 things you plan on keeping and I mean 100. It may seem difficult at first but what are you holding on for if your goal is to let go?

Let me be explicit the rule of 100 is simple. if you want to keep your car that is one thing. Your sunglasses make two, your jacket jeans and t shirt make three four and five with the cell phone coming in at six. You want to end up with 100 things total that are leaving society with you.

This can be a process that takes years if you let it. The easiest way to do it is to look at the things you use daily and those are put on the list. Items you haven’t seen in months or more all have to go. What is the purpose of all that excess outside of weighing you down? Think of how easy it would be to pick up and leave with only 100 other items to be concerned about. You would probably already be out of society.

4. Selection, Sale and Scrap

You have followed the Midas Principle and have made a list of the 100 things you plan on taking with you out of society. This may be a emotional experience for some but change requires sacrifice.

You will set your 100 things aside for safe keeping and actively get rid of everything else. If you own your domicile keep it as an item and rent it for income or sell it. Sell the excess vehicles you have or if you have one newer vehicle sell it and buy something cheaper, that is older and reliable for your new journey. Pots, pans, blankets, clothes, shoes, furniture etc.

You’re selling everything you have in excess in your life. You don’t need any of it and it’s all just a weight tying you to society. Don’t forget the goal is to get out, so there is no reason to hold back.

Try and price things fairly so everything is sold otherwise you will be giving things away that you could have sold at lower prices because nothing will remain other than those 100 items.

Please remember to empty those storage units out if you have them. Sell it all!!!

5. Spend Wisely

You should have acquired a decent amount of money if you are like anyone else in society and have lived in a secret overabundance. Between the bills for services you won’t use anymore and everything you were able to sale, you should be able to move forward amicably.

First thing you will need is somewhere to live. I assume when you say you want to leave society you want independence. With this in mind you have a few options for shelter

  1. Enclosed Trailer home (on wheels)
  2. RV/SKOOLIE/VAN
  3. Build a small house (If you plan on building a house follow this series, What is the cheapest way to build a house)

If you go with the enclosed trailer home be sure your car is capable of towing it. With any excess money, after figuring out your living situation and necessities if you have room for more items within the 100 you are taking.

Make sure you have money saved for perishables, gas, etc. This money will need to last, so keep that at the forefront of your mind.

6. Pick a place to live

This one is a wild card depending on how you want to live. What climate do you enjoy, would you rather go from place to place or have a set home somewhere away from everything. Where you decide to live is a big commitment, the biggest you have made so far.

For instance, if you chose to just travel non stop, you have to factor in the ongoing price of gas, produce and perishables wherever you go, short term and long term maintenance on the vehicle and/or trailer, possible citations and violations while driving etc. You also have to take into account that you will be right in the midst of society just not apart of it anymore which could be alluring to some and a detraction to others.

Another example is if you pick a stationary location, like a beautiful parcel in the outskirt of Leaveworth, Washington. You have to be prepared for the climate. A lot of rain, and a good deal of cloudy days. Cold winters with a moderate amount of snow, with a breathtaking autumn. This is a very particular climate for growing food, and plans need to be made for heating the home during winter etc.

Most importantly things are priced differently everywhere. Parcels of land, groceries, firewood, lumber, gas etc. The place you choose to live will affect everything about your life outside of society so take your time and consider everything when making your decision.

7. Move Forward Without A Shadow of A Doubt

This basically means the jeans are already ironed, that crease is here for the long haul looking back won’t change anything. Make your decisions and stand on them after you make them. This may be the hardest part of the process. You have to implement every element of, How to leave society.

If you doubt yourself it can cost you everything, All of the time, money and effort can be lost with just one instance of second guessing your decision once the ball is in motion. If you try and hold on to more than The Midas Principle permits because of an emotional attachment and because of that can’t afford the trailer you want leading you to building one from scratch and not having enough money to finish it than your stuck at square one, right back in society.

This is just one example. Make sure this doesn’t happen by planning everything properly and being steadfast in your decisions while following the guidelines outlined for you here.

8. Commit

The hard part is done. You blindly followed; How to leave Society:In 8 Simple Steps. Now all that is left to do is commit to your new life. It will be hard a times not having celebrities lives plastered all over your feed or spending the day eating ice cream and watch Netflix or having to cook instead of ordering door dash. You have to remember, you wanted this for a reason and everything is already done, you just have to acclimate and let your new life encompass you.

There will always be thousands of reasons why it would easier to go back, but if you commit you will get what you wanted and that is your way out of society.

For someone such as myself who has the intention of leaving society, this article is perfect!! It’s a great guide and exit strategy, especially if you’ve never done something like this before. The Midas Principle (Rule of 100) was very interesting to me, that is definitely something I did not consider. I was debating on whether I should sell everything or rent a U-Haul for when I move… I don’t believe that the things I currently have will serve me in this new life… I will definitely be utilizing this principle to put things into perspective!

“Move Forward Without A Shadow of A Doubt”. This resonated with me. I can make up my mind in the direction I want to go and move forwards seamlessly. The moment I start to doubt myself and the decisions I’ve committed to? Domino effect. It’s very important to set the mind on what you want to do and ignore the fear, doubts, negativity, etc. Make your decision and only think positively about your next steps and how you will achieve them.

I loved this article. You have a lot of incredible information, and I’ll continue to read as I embark on my journey to leave society behind. Keep up the great work!!!

That is exciting to hear… Congratulations on taking the first step and acquiring information in regards to you plans. When I took the plunge I was already living a fairly transient life due to my job so making the decision was an easy affair but my goal is to inform others and make it easier if they are interested or just showing them the other side.

Yes the Midas Principle is something I plan on going into more detail on in another article, it is a great way to clear the clutter in your life and start fresh. It is quite invigorating and can also bring in a fair amount of capitol.

You should list everything you have and make an argument for each item you actually need. You will find that list dwindle dramatically when you are realistic for its ongoing use in your life moving forward.

Yes moving forward without a shadow of a doubt is a hard tenet to live by, and quite difficult to master as doubt creeps up only when it is sure to overwhelm it’s victim. Try to make broader convictions making less room for doubt to squirrel it’s way in. For example instead of will save $1,000 commit to the decision of saving money every day, whether that means not getting that Starbucks, or canceling a membership you don’t use etc. One you build your inner confidence you can narrow those convictions down exponentially.

I’m glad you enjoyed the article and thank you for your comment and your brevity. I hope within these articles you find what you are looking for and take the plunge into the unknown.
