The idea of leaving everything you know is daunting at first but with information the transition is much easier. You have to make a firm decision that is the hardest part. I moved off the grid because it was the only option and a new world unfolded for me afterwards. How to move off the grid will differ from person to person, at least if you want a smooth transition.
Let me assure of you one thing, turbulence will make you doubt yourself, and doubt can prevent you from fully integrating into this new lifestyle choice. As with anything there are limitations to what you will be able to do to ease your journey and I will try and help with that. How to move off the Grid: In 2024 starts with firm commitment.
Resolution
Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t have to be a new year for you to make them. I do believe that people forget the meaning of the term because tradition says you should just list items that you want to do/change in the upcoming year. Theoretically, that can be considered a resolution, but resolve is unwavering, absolute, determined, undying purpose. Think about the resolution made over the years and how many were kept. Odds are there was no resolve, no undying purpose.
There are simple solutions to simple problems. How to move off the grid is a complex under taking but a simple problem. The first step is to make it your life. Be resolute. Just so I am clear one is resolute in their undertaking of getting access to oxygen when they are drowning, that is purpose. A picture of oxygen holds no value for one suffering from asphyxiation, neither does the idea of it. There must be a unmatched need for it, that will get you, to the surface and after the first breathe the rest comes naturally.
Plan
A goal without a plan is just your imagination at work. A dream you return to when your eyes close, a wisp of smoke that fades out of existence when you out stretch your hand. A plan is substance, you either succeed or fail with a plan there is no middle ground and that is what you need. Read, How to leave Society In 8 Simple Steps, for some back round information, Afterwards plan your exit. Don’t focus on the small stuff in the beginning, the large things are what will weigh you down.
Pick a exit date
This is the date you want to be off the grid. Hold firm in it. 2024 will be filled with on going inflation, doubt, and obstacles. Every dollar you have loses value meticulously as time passes and you will need as much as you can get.
Save
How much will you need before your exit date in order to depart? This depends on your style of living and if your willing to struggle to make it. This means I can’t estimate realistic figures but I can help.
Each tier will govern your chances of succeeding long term, as you will have to find ways to make money off the grid/make ends meet. Every one is different, certain people can shoulder more hardship than others, this may mean no immediate power or limited power, building everything from scratch, sleeping outside for a few seasons etc. I can’t determine what you can endure and what will break you, all I can do is get you out.
Shed
Plan to get rid of almost everything you own, most of it will not serve you well when you leave. This effect is doubled if you have nothing saved. You will need funds to get started, so sale it all. If you need things you can buy them once you get to a minimum tier. Remember all of these things won’t show you how to move off the grid, it won’t help you in 99% of cases. Obviously keep what you “need” but be sure you need it.
Learn
You will need skills to go off the grid. Start watching you tube videos and reading books on things that you either want to have (rain water collection for example) or things you will need to maintain (an RV for example). You can never have too much knowledge and it will almost always make things easier as well as less foreign.
Fortify
Gather the resources you need. This could mean a generator, solar panels, a car, outdoor cookware, backpacking items etc. These items will be based on the tier you fall in. At this stage pricing everything is essential because you may need extra funds in order to cover some of the supplies required for your success.

You can think of these as the levels of off the grid life accessible to you based on the funds you have.
